Katie received a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism from Texas State University. While completing her degree, Katie worked as a legislative intern for Rep. Elliott Naishtat and wrote freelance articles for local newspapers. After graduating, Katie served as a Committee Clerk for the House Committee on Culture, Recreation, and Tourism, where she also gained experience in organizing and executing grassroots campaigns while volunteering for then Chairman Mark Homer’s reelection campaign. Katie began working for the Railroad Commission in 2011 and was quickly promoted to a top advisory position within Commissioner Porter’s office, where she was responsible for all communication to the media and public, in addition to managing public affairs strategies for the Commissioner. During her time at the Railroad Commission, Katie gained in-depth knowledge of Commission rules, regulations and procedures, as well as hands-on experience working with industry, special interest groups, and the general public to carefully craft rules and policies. As Director of Public Affairs, Katie also played an integral role in producing Commissioner Porter’s Eagle Ford Shale Task Force Report, issued in March 2013. In addition to her work at the Railroad Commission, Katie worked closely with the Atlantic Council and John Tintera as the lead researcher and technical writer of the white paper issued by the Atlantic Council in July, “Sustainable Water Management by the Texas Oil and Gas Industry.”
