Jim Standley

Senior Policy Advisor


Jim is a senior government relations executive with over 30 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry. He has served in a leadership capacity in formulating, passing, reforming and in some cases defeating proposed legislative, regulatory and executive order initiatives and has developed wide and diverse relationships with senior legislators, regulators and their staffs in 15 states and at the Federal level.

At Linn Energy Jim was responsible for establishing the company’s Government Relations department, developed the strategic direction, formed both Texas and Federal political action committees and managed all lobbying efforts. He continues as a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of numerous oil and gas industry trade associations and serves on key state and federal legislative and regulatory committees. Those activities have included Endangered Species Act reform, water rules, tax reforms, hydraulic fracturing regulation and reporting, the Environmental Protection Agency’s emission standards, the Bureau of Land Management’s permitting requirements and state road funding.

Previously Jim served as Vice President of Strategic Planning and Industry and Regulatory Affairs at IHS Inc. managing both domestic and international activities. In 2008 he was nominated by Harris Sherman the Colorado Director of Natural Resources and confirmed by Governor Bill Ritter as the official state representative to the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.

Jim attended the University of Florida receiving a BBA, and has received reengineering/process improvement certification from the University of California at Berkley, Delphi Consulting and Six Sigma.

He actively participates in the nationwide Wounded Warrior program and supports the Houston Children’s Hospital.
